A little bit Nintendo, a little bit dance pop, and more than a handful of fun. These are the ingredients which make up D&D Sluggers. From their port town of Wilmington, NC, the dynamic duo of Soultron and Hyphen utilize a Game Boy DMG and Nintendo DS in harmony with guitar, synths and vocals to create seriously catchy music about love, life, perseverance and Pokemon. Formed in March 2010 in the wake of their previous projects Soultron and Little Miss Sabotage and the Cornflowers, D&D Sluggers have been making a name for themselves up and down the east coast. Having been tapped to play such massive festivals as Hopscotch 2011, Nerd-a-palooza 2012, The Escapist Expo 2012, MAGFest 11, and SXSW 2012, and supporting the likes of Afroman, Random Encounter, Math the Band, The Protomen and Peelander-Z, their style has helped to bridge the gap between chiptune and rock. True lovers of the genre, they have even published a guide to getting started making chiptunes.
On August 20th, 2011, D&D Sluggers released their much-anticipated full-length album, This Album is a Party. This album sees the duo realizing their full potential. Produced by Worth Weaver at Red Room Recording, the band have fully translated their raucous and infectious live show to a handy compact disc format. Already, the album has garnered praise. Brian Tucker from Star News says, “If music could be highly infectious for the ear then D&D Sluggers have a nasty virus in This Album is a Party.” A successful alternate reality game built a large buzz crossing through the borders of states, countries and oceans. D&D Sluggers are currently tweaking material for their sophomore release, and will be coming to your town soon.
